Our BTA Management Team
Barry Young
Managing Director
Barry joined BTA in 1993 and has worked in a variety of positions across the business. In 2003 he became a director of the company and in 2016 was promoted to his current position. Outside of BTA Barry is active on various committees including The Brixham Fishermen’s Provident Fund, SW Fish Producers Organisation and The Fisherman’s Mission.
Mathew Bailey
Operations Director
Matt has worked his way up through the company since joining in 1989 spending time in a variety of positions including working as operations manager for several years. In May 2018 Matt was appointed as a company director. He has a vast experience of how the business functions and is responsible for haulage, transport and many other areas of the business.
Neil Watson
Director and Fishing Specialist
Neil, a former fisherman, sold his business in March 2018, after serving 35 years in the fishing industry. He commenced employment with BTA in August 2018 as a fishing specialist advising the directors on all fishing matters. Neil was delighted to accept the position as a director of the company on 1 January 2019. Neil also controls the buying and selling of fuel for BTA.
Adam Mudge
Finance Director
After completing 2 successful years service in the accounts team on the 1 November 2020 Adam became the Finance Director as well as the company secretary. In his previous role with Bishop Fleming, Adam worked as a senior manager and a fishing specialist and brings his skills from practice to the industry.
John Rogers
Chief Auctioneer
Ex fisherman John has been with BTA since 1995 and has worked his way up through the ranks to the role of chief auctioneer. John has two other auctioneers to manage as well as looking after all of our customers – the fish buyers.
Lindsay Ritson
Accounts Manager
We have a wonderful team in the office, headed up by Lindsay. Having worked for BTA since 2000 Lindsay has an in-depth and expert knowledge of all our systems and accounting procedures.
Luke Netherton
General Operations Manager
Luke joined BTA when he was 17 and immediately started to land boats and grade fish. He also quickly passed his HGV licence allowing him to drive the lorries. He was soon also auctioneering helping out the main auctioneers and having a huge impact on the design and implementation of the online icloud auction clock. Having done almost every job, including working in the office, in 2022 he was promoted to his current role where his knowledge of the business is invaluable.
Dylan Huxley and Tom Holdcroft
Transport Managers
Tom has worked his way up through the ranks since joining in 2008 to become a manager in 2021. Dylan has recently joined the business in September 2023 bringing his vast experience of driving in the seafood industry to BTA. Both are hugely respected within the industry and are striving to grow the transport side of the business. They are managing both an increasing number of drivers and vehicles!
Phil Allen
Ice Plant Manager
Phil has the responsibility of managing and maintaining the ice plant. The ice plant is a vital component in the running of the business. It was built in 2014 at a cost of some £800,000. Phil joined BTA in 1987 and is currently our longest serving employee.
Paul Mortimer
Night Shift Manager
Paul joined the company in 1990. As the Fish Market operates on a 24-hour basis, Paul’s role is to manage the hectic night shift operation. He is responsible for ensuring all the boats are landed and their fish iced, graded and stored ready for auction in the morning.
Kevin Dale
HR and Health and Safety Manager
Kevin joined the team in April 2020 having had vast experience in both roles, especially with Sainsburys. His knowledge and professionalism has already proved to be a valuable addition to the business.
Mark Owen
Quality Control Manager
In July 2018 BTA were delighted to employ Mark as quality control manager. Mark has many years of experience working for some of the large fish merchants where he ensured customers received amazing fish. He has the challenging task of ensuring fish from Brixham Fish Market remains the highest quality fish you can buy!
John “Jock” Hewitt
Day shift Manager
Glaswegian “Jock” joined the company in 2008 working on the evening shift. He later transferred to the day shift working his way up to Supervisor. After a number of years supervising he was promoted in 2022 to Day Shift Manager. A great character to have around!
