Two weeks after the launch of the world’s first cloud based fish market clock auction the system is now bedded down and running smoothly. After some jitters in the run up to the launch the BTA directors can finally relax (a little) knowing that everything has gone to plan.
Central to that success was the Aucxis support team who were around for all of the first week sorting out the gremlins and the teething problems with the back-end systems, getting the printers to work and being able to print out the tallies. Working closely with Aucxis were Steve from Bon-IT and Kurt de Lange, the consultant retained by BTA to manage the project, both of whom did a sterling job supporting both BTA and the fish buyers. Steve played a blinder by being available as the auction was in progress to help resolve everyone’s IT issues as they struggled with the new format and, for some, getting to grips with their new PC’s.
BTA would like to thank all of the buyers of fish for their patience and perseverance, and their positive feedback. The Aucxis team were able to update, modify and improve the system based on the flow of comments buyers made as they got used to this new system and process of buying fish.
Key Points from the First Week
We are sure that many of you will look back at that first week with a feeling of nostalgia and the remembrance of a few highs and lows as we move from one era to the next. However, the general feedback from everyone using the system has been very positive, some of the highlights include:-
1st boats to sell fish through KOSMOS: Barentszee and Sam of Ladram
1st buyers of fish using KOSMOS : Les Daniels and Jamie Greenwood form Wright Bros
1st overseas buyer to use KOSMOS: Bluesail (France). As the glory boys at Bluesail put it so succinctly; “Unless somebody else beat us to it, you have today successfully sold fish on the system to an internet bidder sat at his desk in Boulogne, Coffee in hand, Gauloise fag on the go whilst he bought 2 boxes of 2 blonde wings from the Angelina, from his desk in France.
We therefore lay claim to be the first Continental buyer to buy on the new system from anywhere in Europe……Yikes!!”
Where the swift and brave go, others follow…………………………………….
Despite initial anxieties most buyers have been very positive and indeed felt that the system has worked very well. Although it is very early days, and being very hard to draw comparisons, it appears that fish prices are slightly up on average.
Media Coverage
It’s been a crazy few weeks as the media descended on the fish market to witness the end of one era and the start of the next. BTA spokesmen Barry Young and Luke Netherton did an admirable job of explaining what was happening and why, managing to keep smiling under the dual stresses of facing the cameras and launching a new system.

Speaking of media, if you haven’t taken the opportunity to follow the Brixham Fish Market page on Facebook, pop over and get involved.
