I’m Matt Evans, skipper and part owner of this fine trawler and I have been asked by Barry Young, managing director of Brixham Trawler Agents, to write a regular a blog post giving everyone a bit of an insight into our life at sea.

For my first blog post, I’d like to kick things off by introducing the crew who play such a vital part in the running of the boat – as the old cliche goes “you’re only as strong as your weakest link” and I would have to say that is very true in this industry.

Pictured in the main image from left to right, the crew are:

  • Simon Vass (Vassy) – Chief engineer and deckhand. Simon is a sea veteran and we started working together back in 2002.
  • Edward Tooley (Ed)  – My long serving loyal mate and relief skipper. We first worked together in 2003 and he has been the mate on Our Miranda since 2009.
  • John Smith –  Deckhand and an amazing chef. We have worked together since 2006.
  • Callum Evans – Deckhand and relief mate who started working for me 8 years ago at the young age of 17.
  • Kieron Pike – The latest recruit and our “decky learner” who is aiming one day to be a top skipper.
  • Matt Evans – Skipper of 14 years and counting.

As skipper I strongly believe a happy ship is a successful ship and we certainly have that on Our Miranda.

We came in from sea yesterday and landed our catch to be sold at Brixham Fish Market. Quick turnaround and back to sea…

I look forward to regularly updating you all on life at sea so stay tuned in at our Skippers Blog

Matt
