Fuel Supply
Fuelling your trawler in Brixham
Brixham Trawler Agents supply over 16,000,000 litres of fuel a year to local and visiting fishing and commercial vessels that use the port of Brixham. Our fuel bunkers hold 170,000 litres of fuel at any one time and need to be continually topped up. Access to the fuel pumps is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The fuel used is red diesel, which is not to be used as road fuel.
Logistically this takes a great deal of planning and precise timing as it means managing the delivery of several tanker loads of fuel every day, depending on the time of year. This equates to around 500 tanker deliveries arriving in Brixham throughout the year which is no mean feat in a busy, congested area, especially during the summer holiday period.

How it Works
Refuelling is self-service. BTA supply each local skipper with an electronic key with a unique code that provides access to the system. Visiting trawlers need to contact BTA prior to fuelling.Fast and Efficient
To refuel an average trawler will take approximately one hour and around 15,000 litres of fuel. Some of the largest beamers can take as much as 30,000 litres.
When?
As the trawlers arrive back in port they have a choice of when to refuel, depending on the time of day and how busy the quayside is. They can either head directly for the refuelling area, take up the fuel hoses and proceed to take their fuel and then land their catch, or they can land their catch first and then refuel.
